It Was Never Just About the Money: How Budgeting Became My Breakthrough

ree

For years, I thought managing my money was just about numbers. I didn’t realize that behind every impulse buy, every overdraft fee, and every ignored budget was a wounded heart. It wasn’t until I invited God into my finances that I saw the truth: stewardship is spiritual.

The Lie We Believe: Why We Think Money Is Too "Worldly" for GodGrowing up, I believed that God only cared about spiritual things—my soul, my prayers, my behavior. Finances? That was up to me. I thought money was carnal, selfish, and separate from my faith. But I was wrong. Scripture tells us that "the earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof" (Psalm 24:1). That includes your money.

The Turning Point: Losing My Job, Gaining ClarityWhen I lost my job during my pregnancy, I was devastated. I had been working for over five years and suddenly found myself unemployed, overwhelmed, and unsure. But in that stillness, God spoke. He didn’t just give me a new job; He gave me new purpose. I began to see that what I called "lack" was actually an invitation.

How Budgeting Healed My HeartBudgeting wasn't just a financial discipline—it was emotional healing. Each time I tracked my spending, I was forced to confront my emotional triggers. Each time I chose saving over impulse buying, I reminded myself that I was worthy of peace. Slowly, I stopped using money to soothe my wounds, and started using it to steward my future.

Faith & Finances: God Doesn’t Want You to Lack — He Wants You to LeadWe often pray for overflow but avoid the discipline that brings it. God doesn't bless recklessness; He blesses wisdom. Proverbs 21:20 says, "The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down." Financial stewardship is a biblical principle. You were never meant to live paycheck to paycheck, sis. You were meant to live prepared.

Lessons Learned: What I Now Teach Other WomenToday, I help women who feel unseen, overwhelmed, or ashamed about their finances. Not because I have it all figured out, but because I know what it feels like to surrender your wallet and watch God transform your worth. It's not just about money. It's about freedom, identity, and peace.
